At the request of Émilie (daughter of our jubilarians) a celebration took place on May 20, 2023, in the backyard of Jean-Marie and Gaby on rue Melançon. Parents, friends, and neighbors came in large numbers to show their attachment to this couple who made it their duty to spread an example around them: mutual aid, love and sharing.
Upon arrival, we were welcomed and invited to go to the living room to watch a video showing the great moments of their married life. All skilfully and professionally prepared with music and floral arrangements.
Then we were directed to the backyard to meet the
jubilarians and visitors already on site. These visitors were neighbors who had
come in large numbers to take the opportunity to express their friendship and
gratitude for having been able to enjoy the advantages of such wonderful
neighbors. I watched several neighbors leave the party, shedding a few tears
and declaring that their lives will never be the same since Jean-Marie and Gaby
will be moving in a few months to a new location. Jean-Marie and Gaby had been able to nurture
this bond of friendship between neighbors. This couple has become essential to
the good neighborhood to respond to: mutual aid, friendship, sharing and the
many services rendered without waiting for "reward".
.
Suddenly, what appeared to be a delegation from New
Brunswick arrived. They were a great number of relatives, all linked in one way
or another to the "Dubé" they had something unique: Gaby's brothers
and sisters’ first name start with the letter G. They all came having in mind
to celebrate and to spread joy and happiness of being together as a family… New
Brunswickers have this natural ability to carry with them: the sea and its high
winds, the sea, and its big waves, they are great people! Also note the
presence of “valiant Quebecers” who are Jean-Marie's sister and brothers. They
are the proud direct descendants of the pioneers of vast Quebec lands. They
were also in: the immensity of the vast nourishing lands… of Quebec. Jean-Marie
and Gabrielle are both natives of: Two large and courageous Canadian families.
.
Let us highlight the magnificent work of Émilie who,
assisted by Stéphane, organized this memorable event. The audience gathered
around the jubilarians, then Émilie delivered a beautiful tribute to her
parents to underline all the love she had for them, then she alluded to her
little brother who she still misses which made him feel a pang in the heart.
Ghislaine Peticlerc, godmother of Félix-Antoine, took the opportunity to list
the wonderful trips she and her husband "Claude" made with Jean-Marie
and Gaby, praising Gaby and Jean-Marie's
exceptional skills for successful preparation of trips.
.
Then came Bastien’s turn, godson of Jean-Marie and
Gaby, he praised his godfather and godmother. It is with great pride that he
said he was blessed to have received privileges from this exemplary couple.
.
Mr. Yves Guérette, priest and friend of the family,
made a brief speech underlining the values of Jean-Marie and Gaby. He asked
the audience to say aloud how this couple had made a difference in their
personal lives. Many sisters, brothers and friends have recounted different
memories where Jean-Marie and Gaby had intervened in their lives by their
availability, their generosity and their knowledge, etc. After which, Father
Guérette blessed the couple and the participants.
.
A musician closed this part of the celebration by
performing a musical piece played on the guitar for the jubilarians.
.
A toast was proposed then Jean-Marie took the floor to
thank all those who had responded to the invitation; after which Émilie and
Stéphane invited the participants to join them to share a magnificent snack.
.
The rest of the evening took place in complete family
fraternity.

From: Brothers, Sisters, Nieces, and Nephews…
Your friends and the others you have known
throughout your lives.
.
In closing, allow us to quote a text by: "Claire
Laffont" which is in conformity
with the personalities of Jean-Marie and
Gaby.
.
There are
people who know how to make others happy.
Looks like
it's part of them.
They always
have the proper word:
At the right
time or when necessary.
Whether
encouraging or congratulating.
They are
ready to help without even having to be asked...
They are such
generous beings,
It is enough
to know them to immediately love them!
Congratulations to both of you
Jean-Paul Paquin
