Réjean Paquin
| Paquin - Paquin=Passion |
When he was 17, he became keyboardist for the Mantra group, a musical formation of progressive rock, specialized in the interpretation of British groups such as "Yes" and "Genesis". The young keyboardist is always impressed by great musical epics of Wakeman and more particularly of the album concepts "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and "The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Round Table". Motivated by his desire to create his own solo projects, Réjean is dreaming of a work combining Rock, symphonic orchestration and choir. Only the theme remained to be found, but it had to be unique and original...
Réjean's brother Yves is a very talented illustrator and image-maker. In 1979, Yves published the very first Quebec Tarot "Le Tarot idéographique du Kébèk". Fascinated by his brother Yves' work, Réjean became interested in the Tarot science, the meaning of every cards and the musical symbolic the cards could produce. Thus at 19, Réjean begins to identify his project theme and starts the lengthy procedure to realize his great dream: the writing of 22 musical numbers illustrating the 22 major arcanums of Tarot. Were the cards a presage of the project taking 26 years to come to an end?
Did the Tarot predict to Réjean that he would have to study the writing of music at the Hull, Québec music conservatory? Did the Tarot suggest to him that he would have to contribute to Rock operas, and comedy projects in order to gradually make his way as a film, documentary, publicity and multimedia projects composer? Only the Tarot knows for sure! But undoubtedly, this vast experience allowed him to develop new composing techniques, arrangements and orchestrations using new sampling techniques and sound effects. All the necessary tools were in place for his work. To-day at the age of 45, he presents Tarot music at last... in his own way...
