Réal Montambeault, member of the board of administration of the Montambeault family association and member of the Ancêtres Famille Paquin website, published a book on the history of the two founding families from France in 1660 up to 1955.

Tracking the Montambeault and Paquin

In 1940, my mother, Marie-Ange Paquin married my father Joseph Montambeault. They were not aware that the two founding families knew each other at the time of colonization. Michel Montambeault/L’Éveillé was the second neighbour of Nicolas Paquin (the first one) in the Sainte-Famille parish of Île d’Orléans. Michel served as a witness when Nicolas #1 acquired his parcel of land in 1678.

Nicolas Paquin junior and Jacques Montambeault (son of Michel) were amongst those who came to settle at Deschambault in 1710-1730. They were located some 500 metres from each other.

Afterwards, we will follow the Montambeault line at Bécancour, Saint-Rosaire, Saint-Valère and Sainte-Sophie-de-Lévrard. As of the Paquin side, after Deschambault, it will be Cap Santé, Saint-Pierre-les-Becquets, Sainte-Cécile-de-Lévrard and Sainte-Sophie-de Lévrard where I spent my childhood. We present unpublished information concerning the implementation of the Paquin on the south shore in the Nicolet county.

Other important facts on the Montambeault/Montembeault lines are also presented. Deschambault, Bécancour, Champlain are important places in the history of the Montambeault family and we mention it. Finally, we trace the situation with the Québec Montambeault family association and also the twin association in France and we elaborate on the meetings held between the two associations of Montambeault.

The author has a great passion for genealogy and history and he gives a tribute to his parents and he describes his father and mother sides from France in the 17^th century to Saint-Sophie-de-Lévrard in 1955 where he had a happy childhood living on the seventh line. The 200 pages book is illustrated with numerous pictures and presents many descendants (Montambeault, Paquin, Beauchesne, Rivard/Lavigne).
